Campbell Park Master Plan

Project
Working on a tight schedule with a lean budget, Mackenzie created the Campbell Park Master plan for the City of St. Helens. The master plan includes reconfigured tennis and basketball courts, and a nature trail through a stormwater meadow. Mackenzie’s ability to listen carefully, then deliver the plan with a degree of intentional independence, took a burden off the City staff, and allowed them to focus on other priorities. Ultimately, the master plan greatly contributed to the City successfully obtaining grant money for improving the park.Learn more

Clackamette Park Master Plan

Project
Clackamette Park, one of Oregon City’s largest parks, is located at the confluence of the Willamette and Clackamas Rivers. These two iconic rivers provide both the park’s allure and serious challenges to its year-round use. Mackenzie’s master plan addresses the park’s resiliency while improving pedestrian and bike connectivity. Much of the park becomes unusable in the wet period of the year because of river swells and storms. The park includes an RV park which is closed every winter, resulting in a loss of revenue to the city. The design team gathered input from park maintenance staff, who...Learn more

Millard Park Master Plan

Project
Building on a history of successful collaboration, the City of St. Helens reached out to Mackenzie for the master planning of a park on 20 acres of vacant land. Our integrated team worked quickly and efficiently with a lean budget to create a vision of a multi-generational park with amenities for everyone in the community, from exercise enthusiasts to bird watchers. As the city determined the best use for the site, the master plan was used as a tool to communicate the potential value of the property as park. The plan outlined the park boundary and defined its relationship to adjacent,...Learn more

Woodmont Natural Park

Project
Woodmont Natural Park is designed to enhance and restore its existing ecosystems and strengthen the community’s connection to the natural environment. During the master plan process, Mackenzie led an extensive public outreach program that included online surveys, design workshops, and presentations. These efforts centered on listening to the community and gathering feedback to inform the park features. Mackenzie also engaged closely with advisory committees and city commissioners to gain approvals. A variety of distinct areas were identified in the planning process: flexible open space, oak...Learn more

Vancouver Police East Precinct

Project
The Vancouver Police East Precinct station presents a clear presence in a highly visible area for the Police Department and the City of Vancouver. The Police Department occupies 17,500 SF of space, including administration, patrol, custody (short-term holding), detectives, crime prevention, and phone reporting activities. The remaining 8,500 SF houses the City’s Construction Services Department. The approximately five-acre site accommodates the station and a two-acre neighborhood park. The award-winning project was designed to meet LEED criteria for sustainability.Learn more

Thatcher Community Park

Project
Thatcher Community Park was developed on a 25.5-acre site situated in the City of Forest Grove’s urban growth boundary but still viewed as a rural area. This perception rendered it critical to gain a true understanding of the history, current issues and future potential of the area to build public consensus for the park’s planned amenities. The park was constructed in two phases. The challenges this added layer of planning introduced were addressed through a thorough analysis of construction options and budget reviews. Coordination with several public agencies was necessary to ensure all...Learn more

Luscher Community Park

Project
This 12-acre community park is located on a historic, scenic and environmentally sensitive site. The final design successfully combines a wide variety of treasured community functions, including a 3-acre dog park, multi-use artificial turf athletic field, playground, 110-car parking lot, restroom/shelter facility, and trails. The public participation process successfully navigated a highly controversial and politically contentious project to a successful conclusion. An extensive public participation process bridged conflicting goals of dog park users, youth sports organizations, adjacent...Learn more

Keizer Civic Center

Project
Mackenzie provided comprehensive A/E services for the LEED Silver-certified Keizer City Hall, Police Facility, and Community Center and accompanying 2-acre park (designed concurrently). The combined facility strengthens serviceability and interaction between elected officials, city staff, police, and citizens. The 70,000 SF building is anchored by a 20,000 SF public community center and council chambers flanked by city hall and police station wings. The design emphasizes functionality in the wings with open, inviting public spaces in the building core. The goal of the park was to create a...Learn more
