Dick Spies

Dick Spies joined Mackenzie in 1992 as director of design after nearly 25 years of architectural experience in Portland. Dick is able to quickly develop creative solutions to showcase site and building programs. His graphic skills enhance informed decision-making and provide innovative designs for clients. Dick is a member of the Congress of New Urbanism and served on the Facilities Review Committee of the Oregon Arts Commission. He is a recipient of AIA Portland's Livable Communities Award for Public Service. A past board member and president, Dick is very engaged in the Friends of Timberline organization, and has played a key role in a multitude of lodge improvement projects since serving as the design architect for the Wy'East Day Lodge. Other notable projects include the Spirit Mountain Casino South Expansion in Grand Ronde, Oregon, and the Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark and Red Hawk Lodge (construction pending) in McMinnville, Oregon. Dick is a passionate advocate for education and active member and leader in the Benson High School Alumni Association.
