Planning Intern

We currently have openings for Planning Interns in our Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver offices. This internship is a paid position and the schedule is flexible with availability for up to 40 hours per week. The Planning Intern will provide support in a variety of economic and land use planning research, GIS, entitlement applications, and permitting tasks. Typical work for an Intern at Mackenzie includes supporting teams and planning staff on site master planning, land use and development permitting, site feasibility, demographic and market research, and policy planning to support community planning and institutional, commercial/retail, mixed use, and industrial development projects. This position requires the ability to work concurrently on multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced and collaborative work environment.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, or working toward a degree, in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, public policy, economics, geography, or related field
  • A general understanding in the following areas:
    • Oregon and/or Washington Zoning, building, environmental/natural resources, and related development codes and land use laws
    • Oregon and/or Washington Land use and development entitlement approval processes and procedures
    • Market elements of real estate
  • Technical experience and proficient in application and use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) ArcMap
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative suites and related software
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively work with firm staff and agency personnel
